Welcome to AMMUN 2007!

Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sarvath El-Hassan, the Amman Baccalaureate School (ABS) is proud to host the sixth annual Amman Model United Nations Conference (AMMUN), scheduled to take place between the 7th and 12th of November, 2007.

The Model United Nations is student simulation of the actual United Nations. It provides a venue for politically aware students to experience the process of international decision-making. Our conference will host approximately 350 delegates from, we trust, various schools in the Middle East, Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas.

AMMUN aims for both social and political awareness. We concentrate on the youth. Our conference aims to holistically introduce and inspire students to pursue active roles in the future. We believe that through AMMUN, students begin to have a clear picture of the situation of the world today, as well as form a foundation for the future with the other culturally-diverse students who attend the conference. It is both an educational and an enjoyable experience.

Each year, AMMUN adopts a theme for its conference. This year we have chosen the theme of "Unity". The world we live in today is far from cooperative. Conflicts and wars inject themselves into our daily lives, becoming the norm. Governments of the world lace their negotiations with individualist concerns rather than the good of the international community. As the youth of today, we simply will not accept this. Out theme aims to emphasize the word "United" in United Nations, and through our conference, we hope to bring together the international community, even if in a simulation, showing that we can bridge the divides, we can find common solutions, and we can form a global community.

Thank you for your interest in our conference. We hope that your school will be able to join us in Amman in November, and please feel free to come to us with inquiries your school may have regarding the conference. We look forward to welcoming you to AMMUN!
